Extend

Count the clock, gather papers, use Exit-Entry / sponsor channels.

Checklists, deep links, and handoffs only — not automated filings. Mark items done as you go (saved on this device). No submit button — completed items gray out. Use Reset all to clear.

Free — no login. Share with a friend before their trip.

1 · The deadline

critical

Know your last legal day

Count from your entry stamp, visa-free allowance, or visa expiry — whichever governs your status. ChinaCopilot does not auto-calculate this; photograph documents and verify with Exit-Entry if unclear.

  1. Find entry stamp date + permitted days OR visa expiry
  2. Add a personal buffer (leave or apply days earlier)
  3. Note public holidays that can close counters

Overstaying can mean fines, detention, and future entry bans. When unsure, ask Exit-Entry — not social media.

critical

Confirm whether extension is even possible

Not every status can be extended locally. Visa-free stays, transit, and some short visas have hard ends. Some visitors must exit and re-enter under a new category instead.

  1. Identify your current category (visa-free / L / M / Z / X / other)
  2. Ask hotel, school, or employer if they have handled this category before
  3. If extension is not available, plan Leave or a lawful new visa path

2 · Paper pack

critical

Assemble the usual document pack

City practice differs. Typical asks include passport, current visa/entry proof, lodging registration, photos, application form, and sometimes a sponsor letter or itinerary.

  1. Passport + copies of bio page and visa/entry stamp
  2. Temporary residence registration slip
  3. Passport photos to local size requirements
  4. Hotel/school/employer letter if they require one
  5. Cash or payment method the counter accepts for fees

This is a checklist, not a filing service. Counter staff decide what is accepted.

3 · Where to go

critical

Contact Exit-Entry / your sponsor

Start with the people who already know your file: hotel front desk, university international office, or employer HR. Then go to the local Exit-Entry Administration that serves your registered address.

  1. Ask hotel/school/employer which Exit-Entry branch handles foreigners
  2. Check hours and whether appointments are required
  3. Bring originals + copies; arrive early
  4. Keep any receipt / temporary slip with your passport
recommended

While waiting: do not change address casually

Moving apartments mid-process can force re-registration and confuse your file. Stay reachable on your mainland phone number.

  1. Keep the same lodging if practical until the stamp is done
  2. Answer SMS / calls from the number on your forms
  3. Do not buy non-refundable onward tickets that assume an unapproved extension

4 · If you cannot extend

critical

Have an exit plan ready

If extension is refused or impossible, leave before the last legal day. Switch to the Leave checklist immediately.

  1. Book an outbound ticket with buffer time
  2. Confirm airport terminal and document checks
  3. Settle wallets and lodging before departure day
